Yesterday on my way back from my Marseille I keep on hearing news about a certain landslide that hit the Philippines. I didn’t believed it at first but eventually felt that it could be something big because they don’t stop from talking about it during the entire trip. When I arrived back home, the first thing I did was to check the Philippine online newspaper that I normally read, and there I found the news by myself. It shocked me.

It’s been more than 2 weeks now that the tragic incident that took the life of more than 70 people due to the stampede that happened in manila. I don’t intend to elaborate on this accident but somehow trying to analyze what lies beyond. Filipinos have special talent for entertaining themselves to forget and laughing out their miseries and problems. Watching television is but one of these: not alone for entertainment but also for making them dream.
In fact, a scene of a crazy pack of fans camping out in front of stadiums for a concert or a match of their favourite theme is nothing so extraordinary. But these 30,000 people who lined up, slept, ate and literally camped out there weren’t there for their idols nor for the spectacle of the TV shows anniversary. They were there trying there chance to win 1 million pesos (euros), a house and lot, a jeepney package a lots of other prizes. In poverty stricken country luring people to come and watch their show is an easy thing.

This morning when I woke up and realized that it is 14th of February today, I got excited and felt happy. Because Valentines day is something unforgettable for me. Way before marketing have transformed this day into a day of spending and consumption, it was the day of my many « first time » . The first valentines card I made for my parents at the nursery school, the first Valentines Ball I attended in high school that my father allowed me to go, my first bouquet of roses delivered in my class to which I thought was given by my secret admirer (eventually of course I discovered was a gag of my sister to me), my first evening dress I wore borrowed from our neighbor… well the list quite is long. All that to say, that I was excited yesterday because somehow I felt something awaits me this Valentines Day. And I was right : the morning the photographs of the catalogue arrived and then I received a phone call that the association that will take care of our Capalongas finally accepted us and there was also the photos of my new born nephew (I waited three weeks to see them). And definitely will be part of « first time list » our Internet site is finally launched.Write Comment (3 Comments) |

Finally after days and months of work, sleepless nights, doubts but also excitement. What started as a tiny idea, showered with motivation and conviction grew up and flourished into something more concrete, we are now entering in the action.
