If you're going to be a serious, winning hold 'em player, you'll be taking a lot of notes. This book is intended for beginning and novice hold 'em players, and I realize that you might feel like you're being burdened for reasons that you really don't understand or care about. I want to assure you that as your skill at hold 'em increases (along with your desire to excel), you will be glad that you kept detailed records.

When you pass the beginner stage and approach the point where you are a solid, advanced level player, you'll see that the statistics you've kept will be even more useful to you than you could imagine right now. You will be able to calculate things like standard deviation, confidence intervals, bankroll requirements, chance of going broke, expectation, standard error, variance, and several other things that probably don't mean anything to you right now.

My recommendation is: keep the detailed records now, even if you don't understand them all, because one day you will understand them, and you'll be glad you kept the detailed records.
